Attempt to kill man with snake fails

An attempt by two people to kill a man with a snake in Sevanagala failed, the police media unit said today.

The police said that the resident of Watakeiyagama, Habaraluara in Sevanagala had gone to inspect his private land located 2km away from his house when the incident occurred.

Two men had kidnapped the man and bound his hands and legs and then forced him into a plastic barrel.

A snake was later dropped into the barrel to kill the man, the police media unit said today.

The police said the man fell unconscious after being bitten by the snake and the two suspects had later killed the snake and fled.

However the man who was bitten by the snake recovered consciousness and went to a nearby house to seek help.

He was layer admitted to the Embilipitiya hospital for treatment while the police launched an investigation to arrest the two suspects.
